My mom suggested it, and usually I don't care for her fare, but I am so glad I read it. There is a reason it's called a classic. It is one of the best written books in history, in my option, and it really resonated with me, long after I finished it. I won't go into any detail because I'd hate to spoil it for anyone, but let's just say, it's a winner. Also, I loved the movie--Rebecca.
What a great classic.very slow at first, but once you get started, you can't put it down.I figured out a few things as I was reading, but the end was quite a surprise.I too was not happy my book club chose this book, but it turned out to be a wonderful choice. You won't be disappointed once you get past about the first 50 pages. ENJOY.
This book took a long time to get rolling but once the hook was set the reading became easy ripping off one page after another through to the end. A great story of a man's limitations, the things money can do for you, and how the inevitable will always get you in the end.
This wonderful book, took me to the deepest chambers of my soul and heart and left me to ponder my fate in this world
I believe the major points to the story was was to show how the main character finally gains complete confidence in herself and confidence in her husband's love for her. I'm a shy girl myself, so I really felt like I could relate to the main character of the book. I could understand the paranoia she felt, her over-sensitivity of what others thought of her, and her feelings of not fitting in. One of the most memorable quotes is when the main character realizes how foolish her fear of people was:"I wondered how many people there were in the world who suffered, and continued to suffer, because they could not break out from their own web of shyness and reserve, and in their blindness and folly built up a great distorted wall in front of them that hid the truth."To tell the truth, it was hard for me to get past the first chapter or so, but once you finally get to the main story it becomes much more interesting. Right when I finished the book, I actually went back and read the first chapter and finally understood how it all came together.
